How Your Dental Practice Can Benefit From Going Fully Digital

When almost all aspects of our lives are directly influenced by technology, the number of dental offices who have yet to make the switch to digital dentistry is a bit puzzling. Here’s how your practice can benefit from going fully digital.
Since its development, dentistry operated in a similar fashion across the board; handwritten charting and medical history notes, manual radiograph development, and more.
As technology has progressed, it has been used to simplify and automate most of-- if not all-- aspects of dental practice management.
Going digital in your dental practice means making use of the following:
Digital practice management: Intelligent digital scheduling and metric analytics
Digital patient management: Digital patient files that can easily be saved, stored, and transferred
Digital charting and forms: No more hassle of physical charts or forms that can get lost or damaged; easily filled, stored and duplicated

Going digital doesn’t need to stop with new programs and digital radiographs.

Personal Experience
Although I’ve been out of the clinical field for a few years, I do have extensive experience working in both a digital office and a non-digital office.
As the lead dental assistant, I oversaw various aspects of daily management within the office; I took radiographs, worked chairside with patients, completed charting, and assisted with clerical work. When I first entered the field, my office had yet to make the switch to digital; x-ray development was manually done and charting, scheduling and metrics management was all done on paper.
While these are the traditional ways of doing things, they weren’t always the most efficient. Papers got lost, torn, and jumbled. Manual x-ray processing was time-consuming, expensive, and the materials were harmful to the environment.
When we made the switch to digital, we experienced a world of difference. Less time and materials were wasted, saving time, money, and improving our relationships with our patients.
The use of DentiCalc during treatment presentations to our patients would have helped exponentially with streamlining the time spent in the operatory with the patient, and it would have helped with ensuring our patients fully understood their treatment.
